Diane Rugg

Diane Rugg grew up in the 1950’s and 60’s in the idyllic, richly multicultural community of Riverside, California, with politically active, musically enlightened parents and a grandmother who was a Ziegfeld Follies hoofer. The confluence of these early guiding factors and her coming of age in the tumultuous late 60’s, allowed Ms. Rugg to develop a keen sense of the relationship between American popular culture as reflected in music and dance and the socio-political undercurrents shaping the concept of the American Dream. This perspective has been the driving force influencing her choreographic work. As a dancer/choreographer with a Bachelor of Arts in Modern Dance from the University of California, Riverside she went on to develop a lifelong passion for Dance Education. Diane has served as a faculty member in Dance at UCR, SBVC, UNR, TMCC and Lassen College, teaching Modern and Jazz Technique, Dance Composition, 20th C. Dance History, and Dance in World Culture. Ms. Rugg acted as dance education consultant for both the Nevada Goals 2000 Arts Initiative, establishing standards for the Dance Strand in the Arts in Education Program, and the governance panel of the Teaching and Learning the Arts Project for the NV Dept. of Education and the Nevada Arts Council. She is delighted and proud to have been instrumental in the development of the current Dance Program at TMCC, where she has taught Modern Dance Technique, Choreography, Musical Theater Dance and Dance Appreciation.
