Sara Bogard
Sara Bogard is a teacher and choreographer, not only with Wing and A Prayer Dance Company but also with Washoe County School District where she teaches classes in dance and drama at Spanish Springs High School.
She earned a B.A. in Dramatic Arts/Dance from U.C. Berkeley and an M.F.A. in Modern Dance from the University of Utah and has danced with the Eleo Pomare and Sophie Maslow Dance Companies of New York City. After coming to Nevada, this Bay Area native served as interim director of dance at the University of Nevada, Reno and has presented her work in Australia and Canada. She is a recipient of the Nevada Governor’s Millennium Arts Award. In 1992, she and Deborah Breen Smith co-founded Wing & A Prayer as adult dance group that performed locally and toured regionally.
Ms. Bogard’s interest in teaching encouraged the development of the Youth Company of Wing & A Prayer in 1997 when she was working closely with students in the dance program of Washoe County School District’s Talent Academy, a portion of the district’s Gifted and Talented Program. The organization is now fully inter-generational and has included dancers as young as six and as old as sixty-two, with Ms Bogard as Artistic Director and Master Teacher.
