Deborah Breen Smith
Ms Smith is a fourth generation Nevadan. She holds degrees from both Stanford University (BA Spanish Literature 1977) and the University of California at Irvine (MFA dance 1991). She is a published author and the authorized biographer of Waldeen von Falkenstein- the founder of Mexican Modern dance. Her Masters Thesis “The History of Ballet Folkloricos in California; 1940 -1990” can be found in the both Stanford University’s and San Francisco’s Performing Art’s libraries and was presented at the Tenth Annual U.C.L.A. Dance Ethnology conference. Ms. Smith has toured and performed as a member of UC Irvine’s Ballet Folklorico, Stanford El Ballet Folklorico and Reno’s International Hispanic Folkloric Ballet. She has served as an Artist in Residence for Sierra Arts Foundation and taught for Very Special Art’s Nevada. She is the co-founder of Wing and A Prayer Dance Company, an inter-generation contemporary dance company based in Reno, Nevada.
